California DOR independent living network facilitates 28 independent living centers, which are living communities that are fully accessible and integrated so that all persons with disabilities can live, work, shop, and play where they choose, without barriers.

Receive peer support services for people with disabilities

Disability Rights California’s Peer Self Advocacy (PSA) program presents self-advocacy training to people with mental health disabilities who live in mental health residential care facilities, state hospitals, and the community.

Get equipment for amputees

Amputee Outreach has an equipment lending program to provide items such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, grab bars, potties, ramps, and showers and benches to amputees.

Get legal support for regional center clients

The Office of Clients’ Rights Advocacy (OCRA), a part of Disability Rights California, provides advocacy services to regional center clients of all 21 regional centers throughout California, their families, and interested community members. The services include free legal information, advice, and representation.

File a housing discrimination complaint with HUD

Federal law prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability. If you have been trying to buy or rent a home or apartment and you believe your civil rights have been violated, you can file a fair housing complaint online. Your complaint will be reviewed by a fair housing specialist to see if it violates the Fair Housing Act. If it does, the specialist will assist you in filing an official complaint.

Get discounted curb-to-curb transportation service

Antelope Valley Transit Authority’s Dial-a-Ride Service offers seniors age 62 and older, and people with disabilities, discount curb-to-curb van service. A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) may ride with the individual at no cost.
