Join Thrive Adaptive on Saturday, September 19, at Life Rolls On’s *They Will Surf Again* in Santa Barbara.
We’re recruiting volunteer medical students, residents, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide first aid support at one of the country’s largest adaptive surfing events, where individuals with disabilities are paired with experienced volunteers to surf throughout the day.
Volunteers will work alongside an experienced medical team, rotating between first aid coverage, land support, and shallow and deep water teams to help ensure a safe and well-coordinated event. **No surfing, ocean, or adaptive sports experience is necessary**—training and team support will be provided.
Morning and afternoon shifts are available, and lunch is included. Join us for a unique opportunity to build clinical experience, work alongside healthcare professionals from across Southern California, and support an incredible day for the adaptive sports community.

<p>Join Thrive Adaptive at the **U.S. Open of Adaptive Surfing**, a four-day internationally sanctioned adaptive surfing competition taking place **September 10–13, 2026 at Oceanside Pier**, bringing together athletes from around the world.

Medical students, residents, fellows, physicians, and other healthcare providers are invited to volunteer alongside the **UC Irvine Sports Medicine Department and its fellows**, supporting both **first aid coverage and general event operations**. Because this is a sanctioned competition, volunteer interaction with athletes is more regulated than at recreational adaptive sports events. All safety procedures, competition rules, and volunteer responsibilities will be reviewed at the beginning of each shift.

**Morning and afternoon shifts are available, and no prior adaptive sports or surfing experience is necessary.** Sign up to gain hands-on experience supporting athlete safety and event operations at one of adaptive surfing’s premier international competitions
